Common Men’s Fashion Mistakes to Avoid When Dressing Stylishly

Practically everyone would like to dress better if they could, but it can be hard to know where to start if fashion is not a topic you have ever really been interested in before. Of course, plenty of content online and in magazines tries to fill this gap with lists of things to do. For men, those lists usually begin with buying high-quality items, which can be instantly off-putting for those who do not have the money to do so. Instead of that, here is a list of men’s style “don’ts” – easy things to avoid that will make whatever you wear look its best.

Common Men’s Fashion Mistakes

Wearing ill-fitting clothes

If you can only focus on one aspect of men’s fashion, it should be the fit. Think about it; you could have the most expensive clothes in the world and they would still look awful if they do not fit you well. This does not necessarily mean you need to get everything tailored, either. While it is easy to get a tailored suit in Melbourne and other urban centres, it may be more difficult in small towns, but striving for the right fit is something you can do even with off-the-rack items. Steer clear of T-shirts and jeans that are too tight, and make sure that your pants break at the top of your shoes.

Wearing dirty or broken shoes

No matter what you have got on your feet, even if you are controversially wearing sneakers with a suit, always make sure they look clean and fresh. People are far more likely to be judging you over the general appearance of your shoes than they are over what brand they are or how much they cost. These are not facts that most people will know, but everybody can see when things have not been cared for and it may not leave them with a good impression of your style.

Wearing single layers

Obviously, you do not have to avoid this all the time. Sometimes a shirt, tee, or polo can look great on its own, and if it is an especially hot day there is no reason to suffer. But generally, layers are a good thing when it comes to looking more stylish. They add depth and are a good way to make your outfits more visually appealing without relying on bold patterns or colours, which are more prone to going wrong. Start with a thin bottom layer, like a T-shirt, then add thicker items and accessories on top.

Dressing in juvenile clothes

Some items are perceived as immature, and while it may be fun or convenient to wear them once in a while, they are not doing you any favours when it comes to looking more stylish. These are things like novelty T-shirts, items with oversized logos, and sports jerseys (unless it is game day).

Conclusion

Negative advice about what not to do is much easier to apply than positive advice, but no less effective. You can apply these tips whetheryou are dressing for a job interview or just popping out to get some milk and they will help you to choose a more stylish outfit.
